    Would love to see your wonderful efficiency tests comparing 12v AGM vs 13.8v step-up vs 15v output from a USB-C PD supply (using a trigger board set to 15v connected to a 12v USB-C PD charger supply (you have to be careful to get one that can output 15v@5A connected to a 12v car accessory outlet, because many hide that the upper PD voltages like 15v and 20v only work if the supply is plugged into a car running a 24v system 🤣) I’ve found these new GaN USB-C PD supplies to be really efficient, and so I’m transitioning evening I can to USB-C where possible. It’s also nice that doing so eliminates a lot of extra cabling to carry. Great video ! ♥️

    I think because you increased the volume of the exhaust it slowed everything down. Air is funny, sharp angles will decrease velocity. Slowing down brakes and such. But since pressure is equal in all directions, more volume equates to increased time.

    As an Electrician, there is a reason we have to get our crimpers calibrated, and yes even the red, blue and yellow pre-insulated crimpers when we are building mining and gas and oil equipment. My guess would be that the crimper used didn't compress the strands in almost one solid mass. Cabac have a good handful of pages in their product manual showing over/correct/under compressed lugs. It is worth a look for those who are interested.

    • @LockyourHubs4WDing
      @LockyourHubs4WDing 9 дней назад

      Those results, don't forget were an average of three tests, for all the tests. While the possibility of consistently incorrect results for all of the tests is a possibility, it's not probable. I'm happy to be proven wrong or otherwise. And encourage others to replicate the test, to see if they're independently repeatable or not. I'm still going to have a look at vibration resistance, with and without heat shrink. I've been told by all and sundry that crimped terminations resistance was less, now have experimental data proving that to be false. I'll be looking at the next wives tale.

    • @stevegraham3817
      @stevegraham3817 8 дней назад

      @@LockyourHubs4WDing Have a google for Cabac Crimping Guide and either find the PDF that says the Right Tool for The Right Lug for the Right Connection, or around page 17 or 27 or something like that for the same info. Cabac also have some videos of good compression in the joints. I have been running 7 strand cable with a crimped and soldered lug on the back of my rally car alternator since the late 80s, and it has been through multiple engine changes, alternator changes, tens of thousands of punishing vibrations, and the sort of thumps that break engine mounts. I have also done similar with 4wd wiring. I don't recommend it to others, but I would like to think I knew what I was doing as an apprentice, yeah ok I guessed back then, and since then I should know what to look for with damage and wear and tear. I did make a 32mm pig tail style of coils to absorb the vibrations and they have held up on every vehicle I've punished. lol

    • @stevegraham3817
      @stevegraham3817 8 дней назад

      @@LockyourHubs4WDing From the way you did the tests, I'm guessing you already know of a Ductor. When we were testing HV the 100 and 200 Amp Ductors would get down to single digit micro ohm readings on crimp joints but we used Alminox Paste on the aluminium cables, which has sharp aluminium particles in it to cut through the tarnish. Copper needs the copper paste type that I have forgotten the name of, but we could use a Nickel paste and that was better than the silver paste for heat and corrosion in some instances. I hope I'm not mentioning things you already know, but if so, maybe the people reading along can get something from it.

    • @LockyourHubs4WDing
      @LockyourHubs4WDing 8 дней назад

      Thanks I'll check out the PDF over the weekend. You make a very good point about support, plenty of termination issues would simply disappear, regardless of soldering and/or crimping (even low strand wire!) if the termination is properly supported.

    • @stevegraham3817
      @stevegraham3817 8 дней назад

      @@LockyourHubs4WDing Sorry, I think I led you astray, mine aren't supported, although supported would definitely be better, just bolted straight to the alternator stud, or other bolt, stud, terminal, etc, with a bit of a pig tail for movement, some then have a straight run, and then bolted to the battery, starter, or chassis, depending on which vehicle and which cable.

    Thanks Lock - being a retired Avionics technician I will er on the side of caution and potentially ☺️(no pun intended) try the 13.8V regulator only to protect the oven over long term use because I don’t want a raging fire while driving down the highway - I’m at my third stage and three years in to the Hilux/Aluminium canopy/RFT project build with many prototype setups discovering what works and what doesn’t - I’ve gone with a simple 100ah Amptron Lithum battery system incorporating Redarc, Renogy, Engel mane even Kings products because I only run lights, 27 litre fridge and Sureflo water system - my Travel Buddy is on its way so I’ll start with a simple high capacity/fused/relay configuration first an monitor current draw and heat which are the two important elements that can destroy a system and your vehicle.

    • @LockyourHubs4WDing
      @LockyourHubs4WDing 9 дней назад

      There's nothing wrong with a conservative system, while I like fiddling with all the latest tech like induction cooking and air fryers etc, most of the time camping, I run a fridge, lights and usually cook on a fire. While I'm not sponsored (I wish!) I've become a bit of a fan of Victron's gear. The customisation and versatility is unmatched. I'm running a Cerbo GX (their comms hub) on a Raspberry Pi (Venus OS) so can monitor any of the systems parameters anywhere I've got internet. Though, back to the TB, I've been running the 15V stepup for a few years now without issue. Seems to work ok.

    I have a MRF 45 Engel with transit cover, I found as you have that the cover doesn't really make any great difference. However I had some Kingspan under roof insulation which is about 8 to 9 mm thick and about R2 insulation value so I put 2 layers under the Engel not covering the compressor vents and one layer around 3 sides of the fridge box with the transit cover back on. that made considerable difference in time between compressor cycling. Engel seems to lose a lot of temp out of the bottom of the fridge for some reason. I wondered about air flow through the mesh problem which you have proven to be an issue. Thank you for the video

I just now got the 12 point 30 mm cv axel nut off the front of the hub and now the hub bolts on the back of the hub assembly are seized and the cv boot is exactly behind them i can barly get ANY tool in there to even try to get the bolts out but the little i can get a tool onto these bolts it's just NOT grabbing and its so seized the vehicle cant move 😢 do you have any tips for these bolts on the back of the hub? I had to heat up the 12 point cv nut for 10 minutes then take a candle and melt it on there. Wait 5 minutes then i gave it my every bit of strength with a 5ft breaker bar with a 3 ft extension to get the one nut free. Idk what to do at this point. It's been a week, and i just now got this 1 bolt off 😢. All of this because i took my baby to a piece of shit disingenuous "mechanic" when i had not even time to shower and never checked. Never ever again will anyone ever touch my vehicles but me. I paid over $400 to have the front 2 hubs done and they were never even touched. 😔if you get back to me i would appreciate it so much if not ill be bustin my ass trying to save my truck today. @@hampuslytz5393 there's another video on the channel looking at hot weather (well for Victoria anyway!) where the fridge had full sun, from east to west

      @@LockyourHubs4WDing I stand corrected! Damn that just does not make senese, but the numbers sure proves it, so frustrating 😂 Yeah man we come nowhere near as warm where I live, wish we had those summer temps in Finland 😁. Will change plans and not insulate the part where compressor lives at all, to help mitigate the problems mentione in yor video, but if I can find stabile enogh weather I will probably need to do some testing myself at some point. I already have the materials so might as well use them to try it out, happy I didn't spend money buying one at least 😅 Best regards from Finland!

    Great myth busting for both videos, had suspicions about the mesh, I’ve noticed airflow difference with screen doors, tent and swag mesh flaps. Might split the difference and cut the mesh out and get some canopy ventilation. Only time I run low on solar power is in the tropics when it’s hot and overcast for days. Thanks.

      You definitely want canopy ventilation, filtered positive pressured fan feeding air into the canopy. I'm looking at that at the moment.

      @@LockyourHubs4WDing I’m putting a small solar powered marine vent and inlet vent in the canopy roof just to help it breathe a little.

    Is it necessary to add dry ice? I understand that it is to pressurize the bottle again.

    Hey mate I swapped the head and installed the cam, but it was off timing when installed. ive been bottoming out pistons and valves back and fourth slowly to reach timing, where do all 3 timing marks have to sit when setting with a new head?

    I first say great work. 2 questions when did Toyota start to use 5 lug hubs on land cruiser rear full float axles and are the bearing the same as those used in Hilux front hub , thanks for any help

      The five lug first came out in the 105 series and the 79 series

    Excellent explanation, thanks so much. I plan to use this as you've indicated, and then another easyas relay between my alternator and 1.5kw inverter wired to my truck (with 270 amp alternator) that is used for tools and other alternating current appliances. The truck doesnt have a large lithium battery to run the inverter, so inverter should only run from alternator.

    Why do all these fridge companies put the reflective layer on the inside of the covers, and then put a dark colour on the outside? Nice review as usual

      I agree, radiation heating is an issue, and dark colours definitely don't help.

    • @sproket168
      @sproket168 11 дней назад

      @LockyourHubs4WDing . Nha, nha, definitely not mate. I only crimp over 150 amps. But where do I start. Blade fuses there shit the housing gets hot and melts. It gets to a million digress here in Australia. Use Midi blocks. Different size wires recipe for disaster. The size of the knot was ridiculous. I'm not even sure how to address the heat shrink. That's why. Constructive criticism.

    • @LockyourHubs4WDing
      @LockyourHubs4WDing 10 дней назад

      Midi is the wrong fuse for the application, the usual smallest Midi fuse is 30a, you'll burn out wiring inside the TB with a partial short before the fuse blows.

    • @sproket168
      @sproket168 10 дней назад

      @LockyourHubs4WDing . Then if it's under 30 Amps, whatever you're running should be wired back to a small fuse panel / block. 100amp minimum. I'm assuming you're running other stuff as well. Everything except high current should be on a panel. I see this all the time 5s Anderson's hang off a battery. If it's clean and tidy, there's less chance of failure.
